What to do when...
My dishwasher is not cleaning my crockery properly
First check that you have the right wash cycle selected. This is because you may have selected a short cycle to save energy, but it is inappropriate for the load. If that's not the problem, check the water temperature, internal filters, detergent cup, drain valve, pressure switch, sprayer arms, and the inlet valve.
Use only detergents that are made for automatic dishwashers, as they are designed to be low suds. Soft and hot water use less, while hard and cold water need more to clean well.
To keep it free of debris during recirculation, every dishwasher has some kind of filter. Excessive food debris may also clog internal filters. On some models these filters are self-cleaning, and they don't need to be cleaned regularly. Other models have filters in the bottom of the tub that you do need to clean. You can easily remove these filters. If a filter is full of debris, the water cannot circulate properly, and could be the cause of your dirty dishes!
My dishwasher will not drain the water
Make sure the door is properly latched as the pump will be unable to drain without it being properly fixed. If your dishwasher uses a belt to drive the pump, and it has broken or come off the pulley, replace it.
It is also commonplace for small objects to get trapped in the pump. When this occurs, you'll need to open the pump and remove any debris build-up. The dishwasher pump is usually mounted directly to the motor and runs off the motor as well. The pump is also attached to the bottom of your dishwasher and pushes the water from the dishwasher.
My dishwasher is leaking
Fast fix 1:
If your dishwasher is leaking, the first task is to follow the source of the leak. Check the main tub seal, the door latch, the door gasket, the inlet valve, and the fill and drain hoses.
If there are suds, you may be using too much dishwasher detergent or a type not meant for the dishwasher. The solution is to cut back on your detergent amount or use one meant for a dishwasher. Detergents made for the hand-washing of dishes encourages foaming and can cause your dishwasher to leak.
Sometimes a large dish or improper loading of dishes will cause flooding. This is an easy fix, simply remove or readjust larger dishes, pots and pans. Rerun the cycle and watch for leaks.
Fast fix 2:
An improperly aligned door latch can allow water to leak from the door. Check the latch to make sure that it is not bent or deformed in any way. You can purchase a new latch and replace this part if it is defective.
The latch might also keep your dishwasher from working at all, since it needs to engage in order for your dishwasher to start its cycle. It is a good idea to fix or replace this part. Click here to get a quote and book an engineer visit.
